Worked exactly as expected
Used in snorkeling in moderate depths and it worked exactly as expected. Controls where easy to use underwater. Underwater mode on the camera did a decent job on adjusting for the changing light conditions
Great accessory for a fabulous camera
I'd have to agree with most of the other reviewers- the SD800's waterproof case makes a great small camera even better. If I ever lost this camera, I'd buy a new one again in a heartbeat. My dive friends are constantly impressed by the picture and video quality, and the housing itself couldn't be easier to use. I've taken it diving to 100 feet numerous times without ever experiencing any problems.
The casing makes the camera slightly positively buoyant, which makes it harder to take level pictures underwater with full scuba gear on. However, this characteristic also saved my life. On one dive, I forgot to secure the wrist strap, so the camera came loose and floated to the surface. I frantically searched for it, and fortunately my dive buddy spotted it floating up above us. My wife is not a diver, and would not be forgiving if I lost "her" precious Canon, so it was the only time I've ever faced death while scuba diving!
My only other criticism is that there is little room to include dessicant gel packs, which are sometimes recommended in situations where you can't put the camera in the housing in a controlled, non-humid environment. Without these, you run the risk of condensation forming at depth or when submersed in cold water. (I've used this thing in everything from the warm waters of Bali to the frigid waters of the Pacific Northwest.)
All in all, this is by far my favorite dive accessory next to my airtank and regulators.
Totally worth the price.
Great product. Underwater cameras are so expensive that it's worth getting this case for your digital camera. I love the underwater pictures it takes.
Works great
Purchased this housing a year ago to use with my Canon PowerShot SD800 IS 7.1MP. I traveled with it to Thailand where I took it to 90ft with no issues. Then I tested it in strong surf in Hawaii, and still no fatigue. I'd highly recommend this Cannon housing. Don't bother with the soft housing, unless you're just going to use it for the occasional snorkeling session. The film (see link below) was shot completely with the video mode from this Canon SD800. Great Purchase, Worth Every Dollar
Great Product. I spent a bit of time reviewing the WP-DC9 camera case and comparing it to the Ikelite line of casings, but am extremely happy with my final decision to go with the Canon. I recently took the camera housing on two dives and a snorkel trip in the Sea of Cortez. The pictures that came from the trip were incredibly. Despite low visibility conditions the camera still preformed, and did not leak whatsoever. Pictures were crystal clear and the detail they were able to capture exceeded what I was able to see on the dive. I would highly recommend this casing, the pictures that stemmed from this product were far superior to any previous 35mm pictures I'd taken. It seems a bit expensive at first, but when compared to its Ikelite cousins its a bargin. Buy it, you won't regret it.
